Here's how to prepare your quilt project for our services. For rates on our services, please see our Pricing page.
Preparation
Long Arm Quilting Services: Quilt top, batting, and backing should be provided as separate pieces. Basting is not necessary. In fact, a fee will be charged to remove bastings.
- If the quilt top is directional, make sure to mark the top clearly by pinning a note to the top and labelling it as such.
- Be sure your quilt top is adequately pressed and square. A nicely pressed quilt top will lay flat and allows for easier loading onto the quilting machine. Every effort is made to square the top as much as possible during the quilting process. Tops which are not square can cause patterns to appear misaligned. Tops which are only slightly out of square can usually be squared during the quilting process. Tops which are significantly out of square are more difficult and sometimes impossible to square during quilting without some puckering or pleating. Accurate piecing/seaming and proper application of borders will result in a square quilt top.
- Trim loose threads and check for loose or open seams which can get caught on the machine while quilting. A fee will be charged for seam repairs and extensive thread trimming.
- Quilt tops with bias edges should be secured with edge stitching to prevent stretching.
- Be sure backing and batting are a minimum of 6 " (inches) wider and 6 " (inches) longer than the quilt top. This allows for proper loading and fitting onto the quilting machine and helps to ensure the best quilting possible.
Binding Services: Customer must provide binding material. For a professionally finished binding, cut binding strips to 2.5 inches wide when using a flat batting or 3.0 inches wide when using a lofty batting. Strips should be sewn together, folded in half and pressed. Quilts, etcetera will cut and seam the binding strips for you for an additional charge.
